Description

Remember Nimble Quest? Here comes a modern take on the Snake-With-RPG-Heroes formula - with more heroes, more levels and a deeper skill system.

Lead a growing train of powerful heroes through relentless enemy waves in this blend of Snake and auto-battler action.

Position your heroes strategically, level them up, and generally avoid running into things in fast-paced arena battles.

Features:

  • Build your train – Recruit and arrange a squad of auto-attacking heroes. Positioning matters!
  • Unlock heroes – 9 heroes at release, more via content updates. One of them throws birds.
  • Auto-attack - Each hero has a different skill when they're leading or following the train.
  • 9 heroes, 8 dungeons, 28 enemy types and 30 unique skills.
  • Path-based rogue-like structure – you might know it from games such as Slay the Spire and FTL.
  • Level up & upgrade – Strengthen your heroes with abilities and synergies.

History

"Over the years I must have 100%-ed Nimble Quest on at least three different phones. And I would've paid handsomely for more characters or levels - but they never came." says Ben Dressler, solo-indie and creator of the Crux series. So when he was looking for a new side-project last year, he decided to pay homage to his first true mobile gaming love. MageTrain took about a year of evenings-and-weekends development and became more distinct from its spiritual predecessor as the skill system grew deeper and Ben decided to port over a bit of world-building from his currently-paused card-blacksmith project Anvil of Tristheim. And, as he became an incredibly late adopter of Slay the Spire during development - he couldn't resist adding that sweet node-based pathfinding.
